Born "Wayman Thurl Davis" on July 25, 1988 in Newark New Jersey, WayOn was raised by his single mother and immediate family. When he was 11 years old, his mother and stepfather decided to move WayOn and his four siblings down the coast to Florida, settling in the sunny City of Lehigh Acres. At the age of 15, WayOn became interested in poetry. He began writing poetry, heavily influenced by his family and new experiences. He realized that he had a natural ability for rhythm and rhymes and consequently became very interested in the art of hip-hop. Influenced by artists such as "T.I." and "Jay Z," WayOn began recording his writings at 15 and was initially, named "Dub-D." When he turned 17 he graduated high school and went on to further his education studying Business Management at Johnson & Wales University, Miami, Florida.
Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, WayOn was suspended from Johnson & Wales. He was greatly affected by the suspension both emotionally and financially, and he decided to use this negative occurrence as inspiration for writing, channeling that energy to create great music. The trials and tribulations that he suffered provided him with great material to write about, and in a sense, music saved him from himself. WayOn then decided to get serious about music so he began working part-time as a bar tender while also participating in various hip-hop shows and concerts including Sistrunk Festival and the great annual car show held at the Miami Dolphins Stadium. He translated his feelings into music, using real life experiences as his motivation, but re-molding, putting out positive music to motivate the youth. Yet what sets WayOn apart from other hip-hop artists of this nature, is his wild sense of imagination within his lyrics that exhibit an unknown wisdom within a young artist. His music a form of escapism.
WayOn wants his positive message to be heard by the youth who suffer through personal struggles every day. His goal is to bring hope to his younger siblings, providing them with a stable and positive life. Since the age of 15 he has ambitiously been pursuing music, and hopes to be remembered as someone who brought laughter and love into people’s lives through his positive energy and creative lyricism. What sets WayOn apart from most hip-hop artists is his ability to inform his audience. His bravery and daringness speak out of bounds in unchartered territories to spread awareness by tapping into the minds and emotions of the individual not the conformant. His unique skills and ambition grabbed the attention of Camp Inc. Records who signed him January 2014.
In June 2016, WayOn's single "Slow Motion" featuring Kevin Cossum grabbed the attention of Rap/Hip Hop legend Snoop Dogg and his label Doggy Style Records. WayOn signed a deal with the label, joined the "The Return of Doggystyle Records" movement, and his single has been re-released through iTunes, Spotify, Sound Cloud, Google Play, etc. This re-release of his single has catapulted him to new heights as the only artist on the label from Miami. His journey has only begun and the best is yet to come.
